Training Log: 35-Mile Road Ride

Early yesterday morning I got my sorry butt out of bed and headed down to Bike Attack in Santa Monica, which served as home base for a 35-mile ride with about 12 other riders with the ALC. A frosty morning in Simi had me worried, but Santa Monica was in the 60's and the sun was shining. I don't think I've ever seen a more perfect morning for a bike ride.

In fact, it was so perfect that I ditched my Forerunner and just enjoyed the day. As usual, my legs are invincible on flat ground, but quickly wither on hills. So I'll look for something with a little more vertical challenge to it next week.

Falling asleep Saturday night, I could feel that my left ITB (the source of my knee troubles) was really tight. I stretched after the ride, but not until I'd gotten home, maybe 40 minutes after getting off my bike. Mistake. I was fully expecting a bit of discomfort after being sedentary for a few weeks, but enough to keep me awake at night? That's new. So now I know: stretch immediately after finishing the workout.
