Offloading Some Stress

Just dropping this here so I know it's down somewhere and I can forget about it for the rest of the night.

Trying to do everything isn't working. Part of the problem is that I'm thinking about everything at once, which leads me to jump around to whatever I'm thinking about at the moment. Net result: a lot of little things get done, but the big stuff that would really improve my mood is dragging.

My dad says it well: plan your work, then work your plan. Both phases help: the plan eases your mind by letting you see how everything's going to get done. And while you're working, you know that you've thought the plan through, so you can concentrate on execution. No need to reevaluate, just power through.

So here's the priority list:

  1. Stop each night at 10pm to read. Go to bed at 11pm. Get up at 7am.
  2. Groceries
  3. Laundry
  4. Put the stuff from Ikea together.
  5. Convert from CVS to Subversion
  6. Update to NetBeans 5.5.
  7. Read lots about Dojo.
  8. Read lots about JSF
  9. Continue loading CDs into iTunes.

Of course, Rule #1 means that not a lot is getting done around the house tonight: I typically get home from Krav/BJJ around 9:30, and if I'm going to do grocery shopping on the way home, it'll end up being about 10pm. So the plan for tonight is simple: kick ass for two hours, shop, laundry, (no time for laundry tonight) eat, read, sleep. I'll get to the Ikea stuff either tomorrow or over the weekend.

I'm also going to pick up two pocket-sized Moleskines. One for work, one for the rest of my life. I've got to get everything out where I can see it.

Maybe, just maybe, it's time to think about a PDA. If so, I'll wait for the next iPhone.
