New Year's Resolutions
I don't like new year's resolutions in the form of "get organized" or "lose weight." I think those are great, and I plan to do both. But they're not much fun.
Here's my list from 2006:
- cook one meal a week from scratch [check!]
- take the train to work
- get a new apartment [check!]
- finish furnishing my apartment [check!]
- play chess once a week
- join an orchestra or quintet
- see live music twice a month
- see one big-ticket concert at least every four months
- ride, run, climb socially [check!]
- put up my hangboard and use it. [check!]
And there were some additions:
- Spend at least one night camping every month.
- Take my bike out on the trails at least twice a month. [check!]
- Watch the Olympics
Not too bad. I'm cooking more, I have a great new apartment, I've furnished it, and I've been following through on my training plans. I fell way, way short of 24 trail rides this year, but I've been getting out regularly for the past couple of months, so I checked that off anyway. There are a few things that I let fall through the cracks, but I did okay this year. With workouts like this now a regular part of my routine, I'm willing to let a few things go.
So here's my to-do list for 2007. I'll meet you back here next year and we'll see how I did.
- Pay off my credit cards.
- Sleep from 11pm to 8am every night.
- Join an orchestra or quintet.
- Cook more often, cook more creatively.
- Finish one book each month.
- Eat desert only when eating with friends.
- Take my vitamins every day.
- Draw or sketch three times a week.
- Keep a training log.
- See live music somewhere once a month.
- See four big-ticket concerts this year.
- Climb outdoors twice a month.
- Start lead climbing.
- Camp out one weekend every two months.
- Call my friends more often.
- Eat breakfast at home.
- Ride 20 miles a week.
- Hike or trail ride twice a month.
- Run 6 miles a week.
- Weigh 175lbs. by this time next year.
Eat right, excercise, be creative. Get outdoors, take friends with me. Make playing and listening to music a vital part of my life again.
