More on the Metro: L.A.'s Rail System

Okay, here's the deal. Don't confuse Metro with Metrolink. They both have "red lines", and "yellow lines" and "blue lines", but they're run by different people, evidently, and though their rail systems connect, their web sites do not. Metrolink is something to do with Amtrak filling in as part of L.A.'s extended rail network or something, so their schedule is pretty horrible.

But the Metro system is a genuine subway system, and runs on typical subway schedules such as "every ten minutes" or "every fifteen minutes". We're not down to 2-3 minutes like NYC, but it's pretty good. It's not terribly extensive, but so be it. Here's the map.

So, the upshot of this is that the Metro Red Line goes where I need to go, on a reasonable schedule, but I just have to drive from Simi to North Hollywood to catch the north end of the Red Line. That still skips the worst of the traffic, so I'm happy. And the blue line's Pico stop is the Staples Center stop, which'll save a few minutes of walking.

So, it's off to the basketball games via Metro on Friday!
