A Sunday Spin in Wildwood

I took some time this afternoon to ride my bike over in Wildwood park. I wasn't sure how my legs would hold up, or how my technical skills would be, or even how much daylight I'd have. So Wildwood was the place to go: lots of options that feed nicely into each other.

The parking lot was packed when I arrived around 2:45. So I headed out where hikers would be few: up Bik Sky Dr. to the Lower Butte trail. Aside from a single biker, I had the trail to myself all the way up Lower Butte and back along Santa Rosa.

Once I dropped down the switchbacks and got back into the main area of the park, it was a different story. The mesa, tipi and falls areas were pretty crowded, so I tried to keep to the fringes. But, I couldn't stay away from a run over Stagecoach Bluff. Best techie riding in the park! After that it was a careful ride down the switchbacks below Lizard Rock and up the canyon. Lots of beginner riders and hikers along there, so I kept it very, very mellow. But once I was on the Lynnmere trail, I was all alone again, spinning up the countour lines toward the road.

I've done this loop a few times before. My legs definitely burned more than I remember, but my lungs held up, and in the end I did fine. No trouble along Santa Rosa, and cleaned Stagecoach no problem. Good ride.
